Foo Fighters Lyrics - Everlong (The Colour and the Shape)

Foo Fighters Facts

Ask a Foo Fighters fan to name the greatest Foo Fighters song of all-time and nine out of 10 fans will name Everlong as the top song in their list of greatest hits.

Everlong was released on May 20, 1997, as part of the Foo Fighters second album, The Colour and the Shape. Twenty years later, Everlong continues to outrank every other song written by the Foo. It has been clearly crowned the Best of the Foo Fighters.

Everlong was written against the background of the break-up of Foo Fighters' lead singer Dave Grohl's first marriage to photographer Jennifer Youngblood. Having returned home to Virginia for Christmas 1996, Grohl turned the initial riff into a complete song and wrote the lyrics after falling for Louise Post of the band Veruca Salt. Dave Grohl said in an interview about the song:

"That song's about a girl that I'd fallen in love with and it was basically about being connected to someone so much, that not only do you love them physically and spiritually, but when you sing along with them you harmonize perfectly." - Dave Grohl

EVERLONG LYRICS

Hello, I've waited here for you
Everlong
Tonight, I throw myself into
And out of the red
Out of her head, she sang
Come down, and waste away with me
Down with me
Slow how you wanted it to be
And over my head, out of her head she sang

And I wonder when I sing along with you

If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breathe out, so I can breathe you in
Hold you in
And now I know you've always been
And out of your head, out of my head I sang

And I wonder when I sing along with you

If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder...

If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang
